778. Capt. Stephen7 BARTON (Stephen6, Stephen5, Edmund4, Samuel3, Matthew2, Edward1) was born in Oxford, Worcester, MA March 29, 1806. Stephen died March 10, 1865 in Washington, DC, at 58 years of age.

He married Elizabeth RICH November 24, 1833 in Charlton, Worcester, MA. Elizabeth was born 19 September 1807 in Charlton, Worcester, MA. Elizabeth was the daughter of Jacob RICH and Ruth RICH. Elizabeth died January 22, 1875 in Oxford, Worcester, MA, at 67 years of age. In 1850 he was living next to brother David in Oxford and called a manufacturer in the 1850 census. Stephen spent much time in Bartonsville, Hertford County North Carolina where he had a lumber plant. Family legend has it that he lost his health defending his property and that after many discouragements reached Washington where he was cared for by reletives until his death. He was enumerated twice in the 1860 census first in North Carolina as a Lumberman and then in Oxford.

Capt. Stephen BARTON and Elizabeth RICH had the following children:

child 1762 i. John Rich8 BARTON was born in Charlton, Worcester, MA September 19, 1837. John died December 1, 1837 in Charlton, Worcester, MA, at less than one year of age.

child + 1763 ii. Samuel Rich BARTON was born May 31, 1839.

child 1764 iii. David Stephen BARTON was born in Oxford, Worcester, MA October 15, 1845. David died November 11, 1847 in Oxford, Worcester, MA, at 2 years of age.
