8. Mary² BARTON (Edward¹) was born circa 1657.

She married John PURRINGTON. John was born about 1635 in Tiverton, Devonshire, England. John was the son of George PURRINGTON and Mary. In 1658 John was located in what is now Harpswell, ME on the peninsula called Merriconesq Neck. He and Nicholas Cole were partners in a fishing boat. In 1666 he was in Cape Porpoise and mortgaged the boat and land, loosing them two years laters when he was unable to pay off the loan. He was appointed town clerk in Cape Porpoise between 1679 and 1689.

Mary BARTON and John PURRINGTON had the following children:

24 i. John³ PURRINGTON.

25 ii. Elizabeth PURRINGTON.

26 iii. Joshua PURRINGTON.

27 iv. Mary PURRINGTON.

28 v. George PURRINGTON.

29 vi. James PURRINGTON. James died 12 July 1718 at 54 years of age.

30 vii. Deacon Hezekiah PURRINGTON was born in Cape Porpoise, York, ME circa 1680. Hezekiah died June 8, 1718 in Truro, Barnstable, MA, at 37 years of age. He married Mary SCAMMON. Mary was born circa 1687.
